WELCOME TO PhYsIATRY360

A Call for Submissions

Physiatry360 is a medical student–led journal dedicated to exploring the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) in its full scope, from clinical science to lived experience, from diagnosis to identity.

Rehabilitation is not confined to one organ system, one procedure, or one outcome. It is about restoring function, redefining success, and understanding health through multiple lenses of the whole person. Physiatry360 exists to reflect that breadth—the 360° view of rehabilitation.

We invite medical students, residents, fellows, attendings, and interdisciplinary collaborators to contribute work that engages with rehabilitation medicine in a thoughtful, honest, and meaningful way.

1) Medicine

This section focuses on the medical science and practice of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). We welcome submissions that explore the breadth of PM&R, including but not limited to:

  • Neurorehabilitation (stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis)
  • Musculoskeletal & sports medicine
  • Pain medicine
  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Amputation & prosthetics
  • Pelvic floor and women’s health
  • Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation technology, use of AI, precision rehabilitation
  • Biomechanics
  • Or any other relevant subspecialties

Formats may include:

  • Subspecialty overviews
  • Case-based discussions
  • Clinical frameworks and “rehab pearls”
  • Translational or future-oriented perspectives
  • Journal club

2) Humanity

This section explores the medical humanities and the true meaning of rehabilitation.

We welcome narrative, reflective, and perspective-based pieces that address:

  • Journey into PM&R
  • Caring for patients with disability
  • Recovery and Loss
  • Patient encounters that shaped your practice or perspective
  • Ethics and Advocacy
  • Patient presentation
  • Adaptive sports and redefining performance

This section values sincerity and personal insight.

Who should Submit

Physiatry360 welcomes contributions from:

  • Medical students exploring PM&R
  • Residents and fellows reflecting on training
  • Attending physiatrists sharing perspectives or experience
  • Interdisciplinary collaborators in rehabilitation (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Engineering…)

Submission Expectations

We are not looking for medical journal-level perfection or complexity.

We ask that submissions:

  • Are original and not previously published elsewhere
  • Are written with a clear purpose and audience
  • Reflect respect for patients, colleagues, and the field of PM&R
  • Avoid unnecessary jargon or excessive abstraction
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

We strongly encourage contributors to write in a way that is:

  • Accessible to trainees (pre-medical and medical students, residents)
  • Honest about uncertainty and complexity
  • Based on real experience

Message from the Editorial Team

Rehabilitation medicine is often described as holistic but rarely shown that way.

Physiatry360 is our attempt to show it.

We look forward to reading your work and building this journal together.
